About Our School
Devonshire Community Public School is located on Breezehill Avenue in the Hintonburg community of Ottawa. The building was originally built in 1910 with many of the original features being preserved and had an addition built onto to the original structure in 2014.
Our students all attend our Early French Immersion program from kindergarten to grade 6. The school has a diverse student population where differences and unique identities are celebrated throughout our community. Our dedicated staff are committed to fostering an environment that focuses on student safety, well being, and high academic achievement. Through culturally responsive teaching and learning, our students continue to work towards becoming culturally responsive citizens who are ethical, caring and responsible members of society.
Our School Community
Students
Devonshire serves students from a large attendance area from Holland to Bronson and Carling to the Ottawa River. Most children arrive in JK at the age of 4 years with no French language skills. The average graduate from grade 6 is able to converse, work, and learn in French with ease and confidence. Students with Special Education needs are integrated into classrooms and support teachers/educational assistants work in the classrooms to offer assistance. Our students come from diverse backgrounds, speak several different languages, and represent many different nationalities and religions.
Staff
At Devonshire, our staff consists of a Chief Custodian, Principal, Teachers, Educational Assistants, Early Childhood Educators, Librarian, Office Administrator and Office Assistant. We also have a number of special education staff that support our school including a social worker, psychologist, speech and language pathologist, itinerant educational assistant and learning support consultant. Parents/Guardians and Community
Teachers, support staff, parents, School Council, community members, and students work together on a wide variety of school initiatives and projects. Volunteers participate in fundraising and they enhance students' learning through in‐class and extra‐curricular activities.
